Happy 4th of July weekend!!! Woohoo!!! I think this is my first 4th that I'm not working at least one of the days (gotta love maternity leave - totally worth all the sleepless nights!). Thats probably one of the hardest things about working in retail - holidays. This weekend we're heading to Great Barrington, MA - my happy place - to spend some much needed time relaxing with the family. I'm looking forward to farmer's markets, barbecuing, and swimming with the kids! The outfit featured today is totally something I would wear in the Berkshires. Its comfortable and casual yet still feels feminine. The top is on SERIOUS sale at under $100. CLUB MONACO SALE
I've thought a lot about how I wanted to start this post. After working in fashion for almost 9 years it felt so natural to start a life and style blog. What I didn't expect is how hard the "life" part would turn out to be. Styling is a passion of mine and that part comes so naturally. As each photoshoot passes it gets easier and easier to share my outfit pics with you guys, but what about the other 98% of my life? How much do I show? I never wanted The Girl Guide to be a "mom blog". Not because there is ANYTHING wrong with that (I love and follow so many), but because it doesn't represent my passion which is styling all women (and men), not just moms.
So here's a first real glimpse into my life. If you follow my InstaStories you know that my oldest son Luke is 2 and a half and Harrison (Beau) will be 2 months old next week. Right now things are a little chaotic but I am so thankful for the time I've been able to spend with Luke on my maternity leave. I shot these photos with the SUPER talented Brooke from Brooke Allison Photography. I was really nervous about shooting with Luke, toddlers don't love being told what to do:), but after she snapped a few photos I felt like she wasn't even in the room. The result is a handful of photographs that I will cherish forever.
One of the reasons I love being a stylist and a blogger is that I get to meet the most amazing and creative people. Brooke is no different. Oh how I love the weekends...This post started out as a Lust List and eventually morphed into a What to Pack which I was so excited about because its been a while:) I recently helped a client pack for her trip to Nantucket and we had SO much fun! I love playing dress up but one of my passions is working with an everyday casual wardrobe. We centered around the purchase of this tunic (which is $25 off right now with code PRIVATE) and her suitcase evolved from there! Another casual summer staple for me are army green shorts. I just love them paired with a basic white top and gold accents (sandals or hoop earrings). These are PERFECT!

Happy HUMP day! This shoot was one of the most fun ones I've done so far! Brooke and I found this fabulous "secret garden" while driving around looking for locations and I am so excited to share these pics with you. What is better than a little white dress for summer? Add lace and I'm sold! I was shocked when I saw the price of this one. My only tip when ordering is to SIZE DOWN. This style runs very big but I love the skirt part of this dress. Hey friends! I hope your weekend was as lovely as mine! It finally stopped raining and we took advantage of every minute of sunshine! I shot the pics for this post with Luke, the baby, and my hubby Frank just a few feet away. Luke was yelling for me pretty much the whole time wondering why mommy was in the middle of the street. Its definitely a little crazy these days being a mom of two and working on the blog but at the end of the day all the chaos is worth it because I get so much out of both jobs.

I usually always incorporate this price point into my style guides but moving forward I'm going to devote some of my Lust Lists to it as well. I love these looks because they're all styled back to shorts. If I'm not in a dress during the summer you can usually find me in shorts and I'm looking to revamp that part of my closet. Many of my clients are scared of high-wasted shorts but fall in love once I force (gently!) them to try them on. Apres baby they will be your best friend! Trust me:)

I can't believe its Memorial Day already! Summer is officially upon us and I am sooo happy. After a long (pregnant!) winter, the sunny days could not come soon enough. We don't have any big plans this weekend but I'm looking forward to getting some things done around the garden and staying local with friends and family.

Is it Friday yet? Monday was my first solo day with Luke (2yrs and 4 months) and baby Beau (14 days) and I'm not going to lie, it was tough! But as the week has progressed its definitely gotten easier and relief from my sister yesterday was key. I have so much respect and admiration for my friends who stay at home...especially with multiple children! Even if you have help it is a non-stop 24/7 job that can often be thankless. BUT, one thing is for sure - motherhood is the most rewarding job I will ever have!

Ok so I normally wouldn't do two steal vs. splurge posts so close together but I had to share this with you guys! How similar are these tops??? The SPLURGE version is from one of my favorite brands and I was shocked to find another so similar for under $50! This is such an easy look for day or night and perfect for a weekend gathering with friends. It feels so good to be back! I'm not going to lie, creating this post took me a LONG time! I tried to find time in between feedings, naps, and visitors to peruse the internet for the perfect pieces. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I can never hit the post button until things are just right. I know things will get easier and its been less than a week since baby Beau was born but it sure feels good to get back in the saddle so to speak!

So I'm loving the earring trend right now and the best part is there are so many affordable options out there. Shopbop and Anthropologie are my favorite "go-to's" for the perfect pair right now. I bought these recently and I know I'll wear them all Spring/Summer. I LOVE these too in both colors! Paired with the perfect white dress and pretty sandals you can't go wrong. When I was searching for dresses I found this one for under $175 and had to order it. I've noticed that Anthropologie tends to sell out of small sizes pretty quickly but this one just hit the site and is fully stocked! Here is another pretty one from the same brand but the sizes are much more limited.

SO its been killing me that I haven't been able to shoot any fun Spring outfits for you guys! My last official day of work was yesterday and now its time to rest up and prepare for baby number 2! Although I really have no idea what to expect, I hope I'll be able to get right back to blogging and shooting because it miss I so much right now!
Anyone who followed me on Instagram last summer knows that one of my favorite places to go on a sunny day is "the farm". I grew up only 10 minutes from the Rockefeller preserve in Westechester, NY and walking the trails became a tradition for me and my family. In the last 10 years it has transformed into a working farm, world renowned restaurant, and market. Recently Blue Hill (the restaurant) was rated number 11 in the world! Its a true culinary experience and perfect for celebrating a special occasion! BUT if you're just looking for a fun place to take the kids on a Saturday like we are, visit the grounds and be transported to the English countryside. They have lots of activities scheduled during the weekends and we always make our way to the grain bar for lunch or a coffee (make sure you try the chocolate chip spelt cookies!).
