Decorating a small space can be just as difficult as a big one. This summer it will be three years that we’ve lived in our home. If I have one piece of advice it is to take your time! There is no rush. Don’t just buy pieces because you need to, collect them. Of course there are places where you won’t be able to wait as long but overall I’m happy that the Trotta House is a work in progress and I still love everything we bought 3 years ago. Here are some other tips for decorating in smaller spaces:

Neutrals- I love a neutral wardrobe and styling my home is no different. Having a monochromatic palette helps to create a calm space and will also make it appear bigger.

Storage - one of the hardest parts of of having a small room is storage….where do I put all my stuff?? We love using these belly baskets throughout our home making it easy to tidy up quickly. baskets are also great for storing extra pillows and blankets.

Texture - When styling with neutrals, texture is key. I love incorporating this element by adding linen or wool throw pillows like this one.

Nature - bringing natural elements like plants and flowers into a space is really important. It creates warmth and good energy. This can be as simple as spending less than $10 a week on grocery store fillers. They’re my favorite! Invest in vases and vessels that feel like art for a styled look.

scent - first impression when you walk into room…the look and the smell! I always have our diffuser on or will light a candle if i’m going to be in the space for a while. This scent is one of my favorites because it’s very light and also non-toxic.

Accessories can really make a space. Using items like trays, objects, and books, are essential to creating a warm and cozy environment. I discovered Bloomist about a year ago and fell in love with everything! So when I was ready to start styling our space I knew I wanted to work with them and IMMEDIATELY reached out. Not only does their neutral aesthetic align with my own, their ethos and commitment to sustainability are unique in this space and an inspiration. They work mostly with small artisans which means when you purchase from bloomist you are supporting two small businesses. Today I’m so excited to offer a special discount for my followers. Use code TGG15 to receive 15% off your order or TGG25 for $25 off a $100 order.
