BACK TO SCHOOL STYLE
Back to school is here! Whether your kids are returning in-person or virtually, everyone loves a fresh start in September! Luke was in desperate need of some new clothes after a growth spurt this Spring and Walmart had everything I needed. From basics like polos and chinos to specialty items like this sherpa vest and these new gray sneaks Walmart Fashion has it all. The best part? Every item was under $20. One of Lukeβs favorite pieces is this navy packable (it turns into a bag - see above) windbreaker with neon detailing. This raincoat is one of my other favorite pieces. The quality is amazing and it would be great for a boy or a girl. Speaking of a unisex classic - this black rain boot is awesome! I wish it came in my size!
Shopping at Walmart.com is easy and fast. Luke and I picked out everything together and our order arrived in less than one week (most of it was 2-day eligible!). Sizing was all TTS and returning is simple and making the entire experience seamless.

They make the perfect surprise treat for a friend or family member, or a little pick-me-up for yourself! I may need to order the Gluten Free matcha ones for my birthday next monthβ¦
clean-up - I always get asked on Instagram how I keep our house so neat with two little boys. Its a combination of things! The living and dining room areas are the βclean zoneβ in our house while the family room and basement are for the kids to be kids. Our house is only 1,800 sq ft so this is a compromise that works well for us. One secret I have are these belly baskets. They look great and they make it easy for me to clean up the toys they leave around the living room.
make - Iβm always on the hunt for lunch recipes. I try to eat lunch at home 4-5 days a week and with Frank home every day, it needs to be satisfying enough to get us both through our day! Chicken salad is one of my favorites because itβs easy to throw together and delicious! Iβll usually eat it over greens and then make a sandwich for Frank and the boys. THIS kitchen sink chicken salad recipe from Daphne Oz is so good.

OUR DAY TRIP TO SAG HARBOR
have car, will travel
Iβve always loved a good road trip and now that our world has become just a little bit smaller, weβve been looking to some of our favorite (semi) local destinations for refuge. One positive change weβve noticed to car travel? Less traffic! Some drives that used to take 2.5 hours can now be done in less than two which makes all the difference when it comes to same day travel.
My requirements for a same day travel destination? Good food, interesting shops, and something to do outdoors whether its a long hike to a waterfall, a beautiful beach or vineyard to visit, or a historical destination. Frank and I love Sag Harbor because of its casual Hamptons vibe. There is so much to do in-town and just outside of it that it makes the perfect destination for a day or two. We had originally planned on spending the night there for our wedding anniversary in May but postponed for obvious reasons. When we got the opportunity to go out this month (and my mom agreed to watch the boys for the day) we decided why not! If youβre looking for more info on places to go and stay you can find my unofficial travel guide HERE. A more formal guide coming soon!

OUR NANTUCKET VACATION
βThe best memories are the ones we bottle up and tuck away, for even on our darkest days they bring us back to the light.β
This Summer we were so lucky to partner with J Pepper Frazier , a premier real estate firm on the island of Nantucket, for our family vacation. Nantucket is one of the most magical places Iβve ever visited. There is something about the air there, it stays with you long after youβve gone. Last yearβs vacation was the first time we were away together as a family of four and it was an unforgettable experience. The boys spoke about going back for months and we were all so excited when we learned that it would be safe to return again this season.
This year we opted for a location closer to the center of town and JPFCO found us the perfect home. 26 Pine Street, which is available for sale and for rent, has it all: walking distance to town for shopping and dinner, a short ride to our favorite bike path to Madaket, and enough space to comfortably travel with multiple families. The house is impeccably decorated and filled with all of the elevated features one needs for a luxury experience. It was perfect! Whether youβre looking for a week to get away, a long-term stay, or a new home to call your own, 26 Pine Street is quintessentially Nantucket. If you have any questions about our stay please send me a note or leave a comment!

One of my favorite perks of staying in a house while on vacation is the flexibility. Meals when you want, space for naps and toys, and the comfort of being alone especially in the current climate.
AL FRESCO
The outdoor space was perfect for an early morning breakfast at home or an afternoon cocktail before dinner. Fun fact about Nantucket: NO MOSQUITOS! I donβt know if there are actually none on the island but we didnβt get a single bite the 5 days we were there. AWESOME!

I was happy to see that they had created a page for anti-racism education and there you will find 7 episodes to listen to. There are also two great listens on Environmental Racism. I listened to Stepping Out of Privilege with Layla Saad back in March but just listened again for a second time. Iβm working my way through all of them and you should too! βWe need people who are willing to turn within and see: How am I part of the problem?β Saad says.
feet - Last month I was in my dermatologistβs office for my annual skin check. Sitting there in the chair waiting I looked down at my feet - 3 months in quarantine and they werenβt looking so hot. I had been doing a lot of walking outside without shoes and my heels were dry and cracked. It didn't take long for Dr. Dolder to notice (cringe) and say, βI have a cream for that!β. TROTTA HOUSE - EXTERIOR MAKEOVER
After spending nearly four months at home I started to think, βThere are a few things Iβd like to improve around here!β. In all honesty, I had a growing list in my head that started after week two and was added to weekly:) Some of the projects were smaller: reorganize the linen closet and order small baskets for extra soaps and toothpaste, clear out the garage, organize the basement, etc., but some projects were bigger! Iβve wanted to update our kitchen since we moved in but that project requires more saving, so I set out to find a project that was both cost-effective and satisfying.
EXTERIOR MAKEOVER
PAINTING OUR SHUTTERS
The color of our front door is Galveston Gray by Benjamin Moore. I love the color! It took me a long time to find this gray - not too dark, but also not too light especially in the sun. We used a super high-gloss paint from Fine Paints of Europe which is easy to clean and still gives it a really fresh feel four years later. You can read more about the paint colors weβve used in our house HERE.
For the shutters, instead of the high-gloss, we used an outdoor paint in semi gloss. I didnβt want them to be super shiny and also we saved on cost by going with the less expensive brand. To be honest, when they were first painted it took a little getting used to. To my perfectionistβs eye the colors looked slightly different and the shutters felt a touch too light but after one week I fell in love with it.
before & after
power washing our front walkway
Iβm embarrassed to say I never thought of our front walkway as βdirtyβ. Iβm not really sure what I thought, it was always just dark. It never occurred to me that it was originally a different color AND could be that color again! One day our neighbors were talking about power washing and I thought, βI wonder what we could power wash?β. And the rest is historyβ¦haha. Here is the power washer we used. We did not use soap on our bluestone and it was super simple to set up. Pro tip: Wear dark clothes - long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and safety glasses. If the water meets the dirt in the wrong way (which is inevitable) you will be splattered. I was covered in mud! Ta-da!

SUMMER CAPSULE WARDROBE
white maxi dress
Every summer wardrobe needs an easy, breezy, white dress that you can throw on during a hot day or dress up for a dinner date. I love cotton dresses because theyβre breathable and washable so you donβt have to worry about βplayingβ in them. Wear your clothes! This classic silhouette by Jenni Kayne is my favorite this season (you can use code: StephanieT20 for20% off). This is a great under $60 version and I also found this one for under $150. This is the one Iβm wearing in my IGTV. More sizes here and here.
button-down blouse
This blouse is a great piece for Summer. The weight of it is ideal for the heat and the sleeve length makes it so versatile. Wear it tucked into denim shorts or throw it over a bathing suit and tie it at the waist. I also love a classic button-down like this one, but for summer I thought the collarless style felt fresh. You can find this one in my Fall Capsule Wardrobe.
white t-shirt
This is my original favorite tee in my closet. I first discovered it when I was working for Theory and bought a couple more of them right before I left. They last and only get better with age (and washing!). If youβre looking for an off-white style, I also have this one. The texture is great!
layered necklaces
For me, Summer style is defined by basics - white tees, maxi dresses, and soft denim. So how do you make a classic look stand out? Jewelry! When it comes to jewelry I like to keep things simple. Around my neck I wear a tiny initial necklace that my best friend gave me for my 30th birthday. When I want a little more of a layered look, I add necklaces like this wishbone style or this beaded style. I also love this herringbone chain style. I suggest sticking to 2-3 at various lengths!
denim shorts
I never really wore denim shorts until I found this pair. This is the exact style and color I have. I found the exact same fit in a non-distressed style here in denim and here in black. They are nearly sold out everywhere but wanted to link in case this is your size or you wanted to look it up in the future! Looking for an alternative under $100 style? This pair is great and is under $60. The fit is called the βcheekyβ and theyβre very flattering! I have them in the black too! Looking for a pair of white shorts? Love this creamy colored pair!
Light Summer Denim
When I think of Summer denim I want something that is either white or light! I have this denim pair and its the best light wash for Spring, Summer, and even into Fall. I love the hem on these - itβs perfect for showing off a great sandal or for a barefoot night at the beach. This style is also a great alternative to white denim for bicycle riding and cool summer nights. Theyβre high waisted and easy to tuck in summer blouses our wear with a bathing suit. Looking for a great pair of white jeans? I love these!
Cotton linen sweater
When you first think of a Summer wardrobe your mind doesnβt immediately think βsweaterβ but youβll use one more than you think! A great light cotton sweater is a closet essential for this season. Breezy nights, fighting off mosquitos, I love wearing this one with shorts or throwing it over my shoulders with a maxi dress. This sand colored one is also under $100 and would be great into Fall!
white sneakers
Itβs no secret that Iβm obsessed with these sneakers. Theyβve been to Europe and back with me, are machine washable, and have been worn countless times over the last two years. To be honest, I donβt know what I was wearing before them! Actually I doβ¦my converse! I still love them but for Summer, these are so easy to slip on and go and their insanely comfortable. You wonβt be disappointed!
woven hat
A great hat is the most essential Summer accessory. I love this classic Panama style from one of my favorite small businesses, Hat Attack. It comes in a natural style, and this black one as shown above and offers SPF protection from the sun. More about the brand - Hat Attack is a family owned business based in the Bronx, NY and all of their products are made in the USA. I can attest to the quality and craftsmanship which is so important when it comes to hats - they last year after year and travel well!
brown sandals
I love these sandals. They are one of the best under $100 styles Iβve ever worn. The leather is so buttery soft and they feel like youβre wearing a glove. Iβm wearing the light taupe color. I often get asked about the Hermes Oran sandals. I LOVE and am obsessed with them but they are probably one of the biggest splurges in my closet. That being said, are they worth it? For me they were but its such a personal answer. If youβre going to love them every.single.time. you put them on and theyβre going to give you a little pep in your step? Then yes! Save up and go for it! I store mine in their original box and treat them with kid gloves when Iβm not wearing them - a pair of shoes like these should last you a LONG time!

Their Scoop line offers an amazing variety of on-trend classics at affordable prices, without scarifying quality. I bought this blouse a few weeks ago and canβt stop wearing it! Love styling it with layered necklaces and a pair of denim shorts.

Our back yard is very tiny so the thought of losing almost all the grass has had me a touch concerned and I havenβt been able to fully commit! Click here for some beautiful inspo I stumbled upon during one of my many late night google seshes.
clean - Linking this again because Iβve received so many questions recently! Here is the power washer we used. Before and after post coming soon to the blog!
dress - Found this little black Ulla Johnson dress on sale and I love it! Itβs the perfect mix of sweet and chic for summer and you can wear it into Fall.
bake - I know its Summer and not really baking season anymore but I canβt help but look at my overly ripe bananas and think banana bread. Canβt remember if Iβve shared this one on my blog yet so here it is - the best banana bread, ever.
shorts - The under $60 shorts I canβt stop wearing.

WHAT TO WEAR - UNDER YOUR SUMMER WHITES
shop the post
Summer is here which means lots of sun, spending time outside, and my favorite, wearing white dresses! I always get asked about undergarments and without the right slips in your closet, getting dressed can be a challenge. This one is my tried and true go-to for myself and my clients. Treat your undergarments very well and they will last for a long time (Iβve had this one for 5+ years). I wash mine by hand and always hang to dry!
